On April 22, 2010, the EPA (Enviromental Protection Agency) started enforcing a federal mandate requiring contractors that are doing Renovations, Repairing or Painting (RRP) in or on any structure that was built prior to 1978, to do a lead paint detection test using a EPA recognized lead test kit on painted surfaces prior to any work starting.  When lead paint detection is positive after doing the testing all renovators and painters must use the lead safe work practices mandated by the EPA to maintain a safe work enviroment and avoid large fines.
